My house of munchkins

A southern mom trying to raise her kids in a crazy world.

Meet the next Mrs. Frugal.

I want to know how on this earth people leave Kroger, Walgreens, and CVS with $200 worth of stuff and pay absolutely nothing.  Some even get money back!  HOW DO YOU PEOPLE DO THIS?

We talked about this once before.  Yeah, I still haven’t got a deal like that.  But, when I do, y’all will be the first to know.  Well, probably second because Jason has to know.

I am on my way to being like all these people.  I made my coupon binder this past weekend.  I bought baseball card holders with nine slots.  I decided to use a three-ring binder I had until I can decide if I like organizing my coupons this way.  I also have a pencil pouch in the back for holding a small calculator and pencil.  I sorted coupons by categories and put them in their little slots.

Today I got the Kroger ad.  I am READY to save me some money!  I have to do this.  I have to learn to be more frugal.  So, check back with me on Monday.  Ask me how I did.  I am going to save mega bucks on groceries this week.   Then when I do, I’ll share how it is really done.

Don’t forget my giveaway!  It’s open until Friday!

  1. Elizabeth Garrett Said,

I’ll be interested to find out how it works. I just don’t think I can be that organized.

  2. Deanna F. Said,

I’m frugal, but I don’t know if I can be THAT frugal! Good luck girl!

  3. Meditation Techniques Said,

Some excellent content here and a nice writing style too - keep up the great work!

  4. Jill Scott Said,

I would love to be one of those people too, but I know that they spend lots of time scouring ads and planning. It makes me tired just thinking about it. Some people are very good at it though. I’m with you, I’m in awe of them.

  5. Lou Said,

I am a coupon girl and I take my ads to Wal-Mart and price match, but I ALWAYS give them the money and plenty of it. Good luck and let me know.

  6. sheila p. Said,

I havent figured that out either but if you do let me know. I see those women on t.v. talking about all the money they save. I may save 5 or 6 dollars at the most. How on earth do they do that. I guess they know something we don’t apparently. Hey they need a book, How to Save money of Groceries for Dummies. HA! If they have one mabey I need to read it…….

  7. wolf Said,

i started trying to be frugal in the last 3 months. although slow at first, i’ve started to get the hang of it. i’ve been able to cut my grocery budget in half since i started.

i talk about what i do in this post: http://wolfylover.blogspot.com/2009/01/couponing.html

some great for deals are stretching a buck and money saving mom. both are linked in my left sidebar.

    my tips are as follows:

    1) clip coupons (always buy at least 2 papers. they say one for every person in your house, but 2 should be the minimum as it helps with buy one get one deals and also 2/$$ deals).
    2) get the weekly ad
    3) match deals from the weekly ad with coupons (the best way to do this, i have found, is to use websites such as the two i talked about above…or look through their links to find a person who does it in your area, as there is almost always someone that does it for each area. they do all the work for you so you don’t have to labor over the ad and go through your coupons yourself)
    4) menu plan around the deals.
    5) set your budget and bring a calculator. stick to it. buy what you need. if you have extra room in your budget, start to stockpile.

it will take a bit to start saving big…until you stock your coupons up. i think it took me about a month to actually have a good stock of coupons. there are a lot of good online coupons too.

as for CVS…utilize the websites i mentioned above…they give you step by steps on how to understand the ECB program.

walmart is nice because it does price match…but i prefer kroger because i feel they have better deals, and i also get fuel rewards by shopping there. i do go to this link: http://www.dealseekingmom.com/walmart/ though to see if there are any really good close to free deals at walmart for the week…at which point i probably will stop there.

hope this helps some and good luck! you’ll get the hang of it!
